Day @ the Water

Thanks to the Ekka public holiday we enjoyed at day with Dan home. We spent it by the water. First visiting an old boat named the MS Doulos at Hamilton Warf. In describing the vessel, Dan had mentioned titanic, so when I saw it, I was quite disappointed to say the least. It is actually an international ship, where people can live on for free and volunteer to travel from country to country spreading the "Good Word". We never saw that one coming! It was a good look anyway. Then we went down to Manly waterfront where the kids rode their bikes (they are actually getting really good) and we walked with Morgan in the pram. We lunched on good old 'Fish and Chips' and enjoyed the fresh air. Despite the very cold temperatures that we have been having - Brisbane always outdoes itself by putting on beautiful warm winter days.

The Ekka is On

The Brisbane Ekka (or exhibition) has been on during this last fortnight. One day I'll take the kids to experience the country coming to the city - but for now, I treat them each year to the best thing about the show - Strawberry Sundaes. There is nothing else like them. You start with fresh strawberries in the bottom of a cone, followed by cream, then vanilla icecream, then fresh strawberries, then strawberry icecream, then cream and a whole strawberry on top. Just delicious. Thankfully, you can buy them at the Pimpama Strawberry Farm - without paying the $56 entrance fee to the Ekka. (This photo is only an idea - I couldn't find one of the actual real deal!)

Harry Potter Buff

Eryn, who you all know is more than an avid reader. She is in a realm of her own! Recently decided that she wanted to read the 1st Harry Potter book. Well, less than month later she has read all 7 novels. Some of which are so large, they scare me. Maybe one day I'll learn her tricks to speed reading. Unfortunately, she would like to see the movies that go with the books, but she'll have to wait until she is 15, because most of them are rated M. Some thing to wait for!

Top Speller

Lachlan suprised us last week, by coming home with a special badge on his shirt. It was for getting 10 out of 10 on his spelling. Lachlan has worked very hard on his reading for the last 9 months, and I'm very proud of his effort. Well done Lachlan!

First Big Haircut

About two months ago, Morgan started getting lots of small sores on her scalp which started spreading to the rest of her birthday. After a lot of investigation and a very helpful dermatologist that I stumbled onto after Eryn contracted "Panicullitis", we were told that she now has Psoraisis. According to the dermatologist, once you have it - you've got it for life. We are doing our best to treat it, but it is a shame, since Morgan has such beautiful olive complexion. Before visiting the dermatologist, I gave her, her first big haircut so that he didn't have to hunt through all her curls. She has been blessed with beautiful spiral curly hair. I do like her little bob cut now - but hopefully the curls aren't gone forever.

Insects and more Insects!

Last term Lachlan studied Insects. The end of term was celebrated with a special presentation on the Insects that they have learnt about. Lachlan did his project on Dragonflys and for his habitat - he made a Wasp nest. We made it together out of egg cartons. Dan wanted him to put the Bee Movie character that he had recieved from a happy meal, but he wasn't into that! The highlight of the presentation was seeing all 40+ kids sing the Ants go Marching. It was something to remember!

Harrisons Baptism

Daniel and Lachlan enjoyed a recent trip back to Melbourne in June to celebrate and witness cousin Harrisons Baptism. His family live just a few minutes from where Daniel grew up on a dairy farm - so ofcourse he came back wanting to move back. The green rolling hills and idyllic lifestyle brought back a lot of memories for him. Unfortunately, I'm not well suited to the cold. Although the idea sounds nice!
